STOP - Stop Turbines Oppose Peel

Welcome! Find out why we are opposing the turbines proposed for the countryside north of Asfordby, near Melton Mowbray.

If you too are opposed please TALK to everyone you know and OBJECT to Melton Borough Council. See the guidance notes on the objecting effectively.

View the Gallery pages to see our impression of how the turbines could look. The turbine height and blade size has been based on the blimps flown last year.

Impression of turbine from View Point 7. John Ferneley College with its own small turbine is just over a mile from the view point, however the turbine that towers over the view is another two miles beyond the school.

AMENDED APPLICATION FINALLY SUBMITTED!

Objections need to be in by 13th December!!

STOP the Turbines are dismayed that Peel has decided to pursue the application for a wind development in a low wind-speed area, despite the numerous and significant negative impacts that it will have on Melton and its surrounding countryside and villages. The threat has not gone away; unless people object to this proposal our rural landscape, that we all know and enjoy, will be totally dominated by industrial machines. We are disappointed, but not surprised, that Peel has timed its actions in the run up to Christmas when people’s attention will be elsewhere. STOP will continue to raise awareness and encourage further opposition.

STOP are lobbying English Heritage and are in contact with MBC about various aspects of the application – but obviously the timing of this is working against us. The application is on the MBC website www.melton.gov.uk ref. 10/00951/FUL where you can look at the revised plans. The new documents are everything from number 205 onwards.

People who have already objected should have had a letter from MBC explaining that the revised Wind Farm application has now been submitted.
Objections must be received by MBC by 13th December 2011 so please hurry. Anyone who has already objected can do so again to reiterate the strength of local opposition. If you think you won’t see them or you won’t be affected, think again!
Tips for Objecting:
  • Pick out and expand upon specific impacts in your area.
  • If these can be linked to historic landscape and heritage assets all the better.
  • One can also consider that subsidy for windfarms will be cut by 10% in 2013 so viability of an application can also be mentioned in objection. By reducing incentives, the test of viability becomes tighter and meets the Government’s aim to ensure windfarms are built in the right locations and generally where the wind is strongest. Wind speeds are low around the proposed Asfordby site and this point can be highlighted when objecting to MBC.

PLEASE encourage people to object. If anyone needs help objecting send us a quick email and we can forward a template letter specific to your area.

WATCH OUT FOR BLIMP PHOTOGRAPHS COMING TO THIS WEBSITE. THESE SHOW JUST HOW BIG THEY ARE AND HOW  THEY WILL IMPACT ON THE LANDSCAPE.

OUR OWN BLIMP PHOTOS AND MONTAGES COMING SOON

Pictures coming in the next day or so. We feel STOP’s photos will better show you how the turbines will have a visual impact on our historic landscape and beautiful countryside. They are quite shocking compared to Peel’s but, as they are based on the actual height of the blimp photographed from lots of viewpoints on all the approaches to Melton Mowbray you can decide for yourself which illustrations are the more trustworthy. Visit again soon to see.

LETTERS OF OBJECTION PILE IN!

In late July STOP sent out over 2,000 template letters to 12 villages/areas that may be affected by the proposal. Each letter was different, as it outlined the most valid reasons for objection that was specific to each area. The letters were accompanied by a flyer that advertised the August blimp flying and an addressed envelope to MBC. Thank you to all of those people who signed and sent the letter to MBC. The total number of objections is now around 750. (There are 5 letters in support of the application.) If you are still thinking of objecting – there is still time! Many people stopped by to talk to STOP members during the blimp flight in August, and stated that they were suprised at the scale of the proposed turbines. If you need help with objecting send us an email or look at the page about how to object. We would like people to keep awareness high on this subject, so keep talking to friends, neighbours and family who may be affected and encourage them to send in their representations.
